The RD-45 is the first Soviet large-scale turbojet engine (TRD), which has been mass produced since the late 1940s. It was a Soviet licensed copy of the British Rolls-Royce Nene engine (Nene I and Nene II).
Characteristics and features:
- Design type: single-shaft turbojet engine with a single-stage double-sided centrifugal compressor, 9 tubular combustion chambers and a single-stage turbine.
- Thrust: about 2040–2270 kgf depending on modification (base RD-45 and RD-45F).
- Application: used on MiG-15, MiG-15bis jet fighters and a number of prototype aircraft.
- Further development: on the basis of the RD-45, a more powerful VK-1 engine was developed, which was installed on the MiG-17 fighters and Il-28 bombers.
