Engine VK-1 - This is the first Soviet large-scale turbojet engine.
The VK-1 (RD-45) engine is the first Soviet large-scale turbojet engine. Designed by OKB-117 under the leadership of Vladimir Klimov as an improved analogue of the British Rolls-Royce Nene engine. Serially produced from 1948 to 1958 at Moscow plant No. 45 (now MMP named after V.V. Chernyshev).
Where used:
- Aircraft: MiG-15bis, MiG-17 fighters, as well as Il-28 and Tu-14T bombers.
- Ground use: after removal from service, the exhausted engines were installed on thermal airfield machines (for example, AIST-10, TMS-65) to clean and dry runways using a powerful jet of hot gas.
