Work on creating a prototypeZIS-3 was completed in June 1941, and already in July it passed field tests. A certain number of ZIS-3 guns were manufactured back in 1941 - these were experimental guns and materiel for two artillery divisions sent for military trials, which ended only in early February of the following year, 1942. Based on their results, the ZIS-3 gun was adopted on February 12, 1942 by the Red Army under the designation"76-mm divisional gun model 1942."
In total, from 1941 to 1945, the domestic defense industry provided the front with 49,217 76-mm ZIS-3 divisional guns of the 1942 model. The ZIS-3 gun became the most famous Soviet weapon of the Great Patriotic War.
