A wheeled universal tractor with the rear leading bridge of the traction class 14 KN (1.4 TS) MTZ-80 is the base model of the Belarus tractors of the Minsk Tractor Plant. Simultaneously with the start of the production of MTZ-80, production and its modifications with two leading bridges-the MTZ-82 tractor were launched.

The design of the MTZ-80 tractors (82) is the product of the deep modernization of the previously produced MTZ-50 tractors.

The first prototype MTZ-80 is dated to 1970. The degree of unification of parts and assembly, current units in the MTZ-50 and MTZ-80 reaches 70 %.
