BMP-1, the first Soviet serial combat armored amphibious tracked vehicle, designed to transport personnel to the front line, increase their mobility, armament and security on the battlefield and joint actions with tanks in battle. It was developed at GSKB-2 (main special design bureau 2) at the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant named after. V.I. Lenin to replace the BTR-50P. The combat vehicle was adopted by the Soviet Army of the USSR Armed Forces in 1966. Serially produced from 1966 to 1979.
