History: Established in the early 1980s as the further development of the armored personnel carrier BTR-70, taking into account the latitive disadvantages identified in the Afghan war, and was intended for its replacement in motorized rifle troops. BTR-80 entered mass production in 1984, and, repeatedly upgrading, as of 2012, is still in production.
