The BTR-80 is an armored personnel carrier produced in the USSR in the early 1980s in order to eliminate the identified shortcomings of the BTR-70 discovered during the Afghan War and intended for use in motorized rifle troops. Serial production started in 1984, and after that many upgrades were made.
