Self-propelled gun Su-12
A very rare (for those in the know) car. 80% original.
The car will be running. Almost done already.
In order to convert a GAZ-AAA car into an SU-12, the designers had to do a lot of work: they placed a cabinet with a gun, a shield, a platform, a towing device, a spare wheel frame, a front deck, a reflector with a flap, charging boxes, and stowage of spare parts. The shield cover of the SU-12 was a box welded from 4 mm thick steel. The front plate had a main embrasure for the passage of the swinging part of the gun and two windows on its left side: the upper one for the panorama reflector, the lower one for the sighting tube. The windows were closed with latches with limiters. Using angles and braces, the shield was attached to the rotating part of the cabinet. An additional shield of the same thickness as the main one was installed on the swinging part of the artillery system to cover the main embrasure. It did not limit the gun's recoil and vertical guidance angles. The inclination of the shield to the axis of the bore was 80°, the lower part was bent forward by 10°. The platform served as the foundation for the pedestal installation; in addition, it strengthened and lengthened the frame of the car. The rear wall of the cabin was protected from the action of powder gases by a reflector. It consisted of a vertical wall made of 2 mm steel sheet with a window in the middle. The latter was intended for communication between the gun crew and the driver of the car and was closed from inside the cabin with a steel flap. Two charging boxes were attached to the reflector: the right one (along the direction of the vehicle) contained 18 standard grenades, the left one - 18 standard shrapnel. The SU-12 self-propelled gun was a fairly mobile and effective means of fire support for mechanized units. At the same time, its operation among the troops showed that self-propelled artillery on a tracked chassis is needed for this purpose.
