Aerobatic airplaneYak-55 developed at OKB im. A.S. Yakovlev in 1979. The chief designer of the Yak-55 was Yu.I. Yankevich. For the first time on this aircraft, a symmetrical wing was used, installed without an angle of attack, the axis of the thrust vector being aligned with the chord of the wing. This wing design simplified the performance of many aerobatics, from ordinary “barrel rolls” to complex vertical maneuvers: “bell”, “abracadabra”, positive and negative spin “barrels”. The wing design was patented and many sports aircraft in the USA, Germany, Austria and France were produced on its basis in the 1980s. The first flight of the prototype took place on May 28, 1981.
