A large floating BAV vehicle is designed to transport and cross wide water obstacles of personnel, wheeled vehicles, artillery systems and materiel. The predecessor of the BAV was the American amphibious vehicle DUKW-353, which entered the Red Army from the United States under Lend-Lease in 1943-1944; the layout diagram, propeller drive and control system were taken from this vehicle. Used when crossing rivers in the first and second waves of landing; when landing amphibious assault ships from landing ships.
