The first serial armored personnel carrier of the USSR successfully passed state tests and on April 17, 1949, under the designation BTR-40, was adopted by the Soviet Army. In 1950, at the Gorky Automobile Plant named after. Molotov began serial production of the machine, and it ended in 1960.
