In January 1946, the first trial batch of GAZ-51 cars was made, in June their mass production began. The new truck immediately fell in love with the driver who began to call it “lawn”. Compared to its predecessor “one and a half”, “lawn” had a more comfortable cabin, had good cross -countrywood, endurance, differed in simplicity of management, was more economical. Thanks to the redesigned layout, with an engine located above the front axle and a cab shided forward, with a wheelbase, a little smaller than that of GAZ-AA, GAZ-51 was equipped with a longer, and, consequently, a more spacious body.
