The Mi-6 was created at the Mil Design Bureau in the late 1950s. It has been built since 1959 at the Rostov Helicopter Plant, both in military and civilian versions. The Mi-6 is the world's first mass-produced helicopter equipped with two turboshaft engines with a free turbine. In 1964-1978 it was exported.
