Porsche 911 (German Neunelfer, Russian “Porsche nine hundred eleven”) is a sports passenger car produced by the German company Porsche AG in the body of a two-door coupe or convertible based on it, produced in different generations from 1964 to the present day.
The first comprehensive modernization of the machine. For the turbo model, this modernization was the only serious modernization for the entire production period - its power was increased. Along with the turbo model's power increase, the naturally aspirated model has undergone some downshifting. The Carrera modification has been cancelled. The new modification received an indexS.C. - presumably Super Carrera. In reality, there was no Super at all: an even less powerful engine, even less sport. The reasons for this are not very clear, and any opinion here is nothing more than a guess - Porsche itself practically does not talk about its marketing policy of the late 70s. The most likely explanation is that Porsche planned to end production of the naturally aspirated 911 in the coming years. The Porsche 924 had been on sale for two years already, the Porsche 928 was supposed to enter the market, which had taken 6 years of development, and the rear-engine design of the 911 with an air-cooled engine seemed even then something archaic. The next six years of production will be years of “stagnation” for the 911 - a minimum of modernization and the annual threat of discontinuation.
