Sanitary vehicle from the Iv body factory. Breutigam (St. Petersburg) 1916-17. release.
The body factory produced ambulances from 1915. on passenger car chassis. Military operation showed the insufficient strength of passenger chassis, and since 1916, 1.5-ton truck chassis began to be used to build ambulances.
The design of the sanitary body was developed by Doctor of Medicine E.F. Klimovich. On the central partition, three folding seats were installed on each side for transporting lightly wounded people, or four stretchers could be placed on the racks for bedridden wounded. When the car tilted sideways, the stretcher remained in a horizontal position. Obliquely located springs softened not only vertical but also lateral shocks.
The presented vehicle is built on a 1.5t White truck chassis. These trucks were the most popular during the First World War. 2591 of them were purchased.
The total number of ambulances produced has not been established. The annual output was about 300 pieces. in year.
Cars were equipped with canvas canopies to protect them from rain and snow.
