ZIS-5 (“three-ton”) - a Soviet medium-tonnage truck with a carrying capacity of 3 tons; the second most popular (after GAZ-AA) truck of the 1930s-40s, one of the main transport vehicles of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War.
Produced from 1933 to 1948 at the Automobile Plant named after I.V. Stalin. During and after the war, a simplified military modification of the ZIS-5V (conditional designation) was produced by the ZIS (1942-1946), UlZIS (1942-1944) and UralZIS (1944-1955) factories. In 1934-1948, the Moscow ZIS alone produced 571,199 ZIS-5 vehicles with modifications, plus in 1947-1948, 13,896 units of the ZIS-50 model transitional to the ZIS-150.
